The African countries of Niger and Cote D'Ivoire have become the latest to join the U.S. African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a preferential textile trade agreement, following a determination by the U.S. Trade Representative that the two have developed effective visa systems. In order to participate in textile and apparel trade with other members of the trade agreement, nations must demonstrate that the products they are exporting are made domestically and are not being transshipped from other nations, such as China. More than 20 African nations are participating in the AGOA.
